PDA Battery Replacement
WARNING: I take no responsibility for anything in this guide. You break it, your problem.
Step Three: Remove the battery
You want to be very careful about removing the battery. Mine was stuck to the back of the LCD using double-sided tape (go figure). I slowly pulled it up, being careful as there was also a ribbon cable going under part of the double-sided tape.
Once I had pulled it up and had a good look, I went to work at removing the cable attaching it to the motherboard. Just to give you an idea of the scale of these bits, that big silver thing down in the bottom left holds and SD card.
By using pretty much the same process to remove the case, I wiggled the screwdriver and soon enough I was able to remove the battery.
My two batteries. The top is the genuine HP battery that is now more useful as a paperweight, and the bottom battery is a replica I bought from Hong Kong. ALWAYS double-check that the voltage and amperage is the same.
You could buy a genuine battery from HP, but why pay two to three times as much when you just voided your warranty anyway?
Step Four: Put in your own battery
I applied a small strip of double-sided tape to the back of the new battery.
And another small piece to the back of the LCD.
Plug in your new battery, while being careful not to put too much pressure or indeed tough the motherboard. Now is also a good time to peel the paper off the second side of the double-sided tape.
Gently press the battery back into place, making sure that the corner where the wires come out is as left and as high as it can be. There is no room for it to fit anywhere else! |
